Black Swan State Theatre Company Season 2017

2017 Showing at: State Theatre Centre of WA

Join Black Swan State Theatre Company for a season of laughs and gasps!

Come and explore new horizons with your state theatre company. Discover new possibilities, celebrate the rich creativity of highly acclaimed artists and playwrights, and uncover hidden treasures and magical stories.

The season places the stories of (extra) ordinary people in the spotlight. It encourages us to reflect upon ourselves, our lives and all of the chaos, passion, pain, laughter and love that comes with living. The year commences with Michael Gow’s Once in Royal David’s City (a co-production with Queensland Theatre), an intimate and sweeping exploration of love and loss. Followed by the World Premiere of Hellie Turner’s The Lighthouse Girl, a gentle and moving ANZAC story for the whole family. Founding Artistic Director Andrew Ross directs Beckett’s absurdist classic Endgame, a rarely seen and engaging tragicomedy.

We showcase Lally Katz’s The Eisteddfod, an exciting and disturbingly funny fantasy about the drama of growing up followed by a World Premiere of the magical and epic story Coma Land by Will O’Mahony, celebrating children, difference and the depths of parental love. Then brace yourself for Joanna Murray-Smith’s tense and furious psychological thriller, Switzerland starring theatre stalwart Jenny Davis as the late great acerbic writer Patricia Highsmith. Delve into the incredible and provocative Pulitzer and Tony award winning Broadway biography I am My Own Wife before finishing the year with much anticipated directorial debut of new Artistic Director Clare Watson with the Swedish romantic horror Let The Right One In.
