Brush up your Shakespeare
Open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and open Sunday 16 October for PERTH HERITAGE DAY
Cole Porter once advised us to brush up our Shakespeare and start quoting him now.
Happy to oblige Mr Porter, we have assembled a colourful array of costumes, posters, programmes, props and photographs to chart the Bard’s progress through the theatres, halls and concert platforms of WA……..Along the way we created a star studded rollcall of International talents to bedazzle even the most inveterate name-dropper.
Amongst those who have strutted their Shakespearian hour upon our West Coast stage were H B Irving, Oscar Asche, Dame Sybil Thorndike, Sir Lewis Casson, Vivien Leigh, Katharine Hepburn,
Sir Robert Helpmann, Frank Thring, Sir John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Googie Withers, Keith Michell, Leo McKern and—wait for it—Cate Blanchett…….. All in all, it’s a treasure trove of cultural memorabilia honouring the world`s greatest playwright as we commemorate the 400th anniversary of his death.
So what else could we call this Exhibition but BRUSH UP YOUR SHAKESPEARE?
